Unfortunately, this deal meant that Ragnarok was forced to turn down a deal with Century Media, who expressed interest in signing the band after a show in Oslo later that same year.In 1997, work was begun on Ragnarok's second album, titled Arising Realm, which featured Shagrath of the band Dimmu Borgir on keyboards. The band received good feedback for their demo work and soon signed to the cult label Head Not Found Records, who released Ragnarok's debut album Nattferd in 1995.The band was generally dissatisfied with Head Not Found Records, and intended to leave in 1996, but were persuaded to sign a contract for two more albums after the label offered them a much better deal. The band's name comes from the Old Norse word ragnarok, which in Norse mythology refers to a prophesied war of the gods.Ragnarok made a name for themselves locally by recording demo tracks and a compilation album including the song Et Vinterland i Nord with their original lineup, consisting of Jerv on bass, Jontho on drums, Rym on guitar and Thyme as the vocalist. Lyrical themes include paganism, Vikings, anti-Christianity, and Satanism. New versions of the CD’s are also available.The band was formed in Sarpsborg, Norway in 1994 by Jerv and Jontho, after they left Thoth, their previous band. This marks the first time these albums are available on vinyl. Here are the RAGNAROK albums originally released on the Head Not Found label, licenced to and released by Indie Recordings. Shortly after "Diabolical Age" was finally released and the band then played at "Under the Black Sun Festival" in Germany. In 2000 they finally found a replacement for Thyme, his name was Astaroth. Rym had also come up with new material and thought it would be best with another guitarist so Sander of Shadow Dancers became a member. The following year, during the mixing, Thyme left the band because of other interests. In 1998 they went on their first international tour played one gig in Denmark and seven in Germany, they also played at "The Hellraiser Festival" in Leipzig, Germany.Īt the end of 1998 recordings for the third album "Diabolical Age" began in Endless Studio in Oslo.
In 1997 they were back in the studio to record their second album "Arising Realm" which featured Shagrath of Dimmu Borgir on keyboard. They also played their first gig right after the release.
They soon entered the studio and recorded their debut album "Nattferd" which was released same year. In 1995 the band was signed Head Not Found Records. They were soon joined by Thyme (vocals) and Rym (guitar) and then they recorded their first demo entitled "Pagan Land". Ragnarok was formed in 1994 in Norway by Jontho (drums) and Jerv (bass), who had just left their previous band Thoth.
